Our Pigs

Eves Hill Farm is home to our lovely Saddleback Boar Hughey and his lady friends Margaret, Monica and Mable, along with their offspring.


We produce Free Range Pork, which can be purchased through our Farm Shop. Meat from sustainably reared native breed pigs like our Saddlebacks is high in protein and amino acids and is a rich source of vitamins and minerals such as zinc and selenium. Our pork is also a particularly good source of thiamine, one of the essential B vitamins. Pork from free-range systems like the one at Eves Hill Farm has a higher proportion of omega-3 fatty acids and a more favourable (lower) ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids compared with pig meat from intensive systems. Free-range pork also contains more vitamin E and iron than intensively reared pig meat.


Breeds such as our lovely Saddlebacks are therefore very important as they are hardier, which means that they can thrive outdoors on natural diets.
